Ruth is a professional harpist
from Belfast and has been playing the harp for 17 years. She graduated from Durham University with a BA (Hons) in Music where she studied Performance on the Irish Harp, gaining a first class in her final recital, and where she also completed a PGCE in Primary Teaching, graded 'outstanding'. She has toured Ireland and Europe as a member of the award winning Irish Harp Orchestra and performed with Alfie Boe in the Waterfront Hall, Belfast at the Titanic Commemoration Concert, which was broadcast live on BBC 2.
She has competed in the All Ireland Harp Competitions and won both the Grace Nugent Cup and the Senior Canon Gillfilan Cup. Ruth featured on a Spanish film Soundtrack and on a live BBC Radio 4 Sunday Morning Worship Programme with St. John's College, Durham. Ruth has performed for the President of Ireland on two occasions and has also had the privilege of playing for HRH Prince Edward. Ruth has performed in many prestigious venues in Northern Ireland, including The Waterfront Hall, Stormont Parliament Buildings, The Belfast Harbour Commissioner's Office, Belfast City Hall, The SS Nomadic and Hillsborough Castle. Ruth was delighted to perform as a soloist in Malta for St Patrick's Day, March 2016.
When she is not playing her harp, Ruth loves to walk her springer spaniel, Timo and spend time with her family and friends. Ruth spent another year in Durham teaching at The Chorister School after completing her PGCE and is delighted to have moved back to her hometown, Belfast where she is now based.
